MotoGP history at Le Mans
Motorcycle racing has a long history at Le Mans. The circuit hosted its first motorcycle World Championship Grand Prix in 1969, when the legendary Giacomo Agostini took victory in the 500cc class. He returned the following year and won again.
During the 1970s and 1980s, the French motorcycle Grand Prix moved between several famous circuits, including Le Mans, Nogaro, Paul Ricard, Clermont-Ferrand and Magny-Cours.
Eventually, Le Mans became the permanent home of the French Grand Prix in 2000, and it has since developed into one of the most popular events on the MotoGP calendar.
Today, the Bugatti Circuit combines this rich racing history with an incredible modern-day MotoGP atmosphere. Packed spectator areas, passionate French fans and entertainment throughout the weekend make the French Grand Prix much more than just a race.
More than half a century after its first World Championship Grand Prix, Le Mans remains one of the great motorcycle racing destinations in Europe.
